Who is the correct Mother?
The attached picture from Family Search shows the Mother to Eric Matsson (LC6F-87L) to be Margareta Pehrsdotter/son. In the earliest Houshold Examination for Väddö (AI:2a Page 13) shows Anna, age 48 as apparently Eric's Mother ( Mod H Anna) (Why is she listed as a wife - H - rather than a widow??) with her Son and Daughter Anders and Lisa. In the next examination (AI:2b page 157) Anders and Lisa are listed as Brother and Sister to Eric, supporting the conclusion that Anna is Mother to all 3. Am I right? Anna is the Mother? Where then does the information come from that puts Margareta Pehrsdotter as the Mother? Any thoughts on where I go from here?
Second question, I have also attached Eric's birth record (CI:2 page 73). someone has entered Eric's birth date as 14 Apr, based, I assume on the fact that no additional dates are entered for the several records above his. If that is a correct assumption then there would appear to be 6 births on that day, and then no others in the parish until 9 July. Pretty busy day at the local hospital if that is true 😊 . I would be interested in your thoughts on that.
Thanks for your help!

You seem to have more than one Matts Mattson in that parish. One is married to a Margaret and they have children listed among the line up. The other is married to an Anna, If you check the sources, you even have a source for a birth of a Matts Matsson born in Finland. The families need to be separated out and children and sources placed under the correct couples. Did they both live on the same farm (Tomta)? It looks at a glance that the last 4 children are first, duplicate twins and second belong to Margaret.

I agree that one possibility is that there are two Matts Mattssons in Tomta. The other possibility that I have considered is that Anna is a second marriage to Matts Mattsson in Tomta. I have looked through the marriages in Väddö between 1753 (when Margareta died, as well as a son and stillborn) and 1763 when Matts Mattson apparently died, and do not see any marriages that include "Matts Mattson", "Anna" and "Tomta" (though it is possible they were married elsewhere). So my question is how do I separate out the two families (if there really are two) without household examinations before 1765 for Väddö)

If Anna is a stepmother, that would explain the lack of younger children. She must have married him shortly before he died. Anna remarried Anders Johnsson and promptly had a child in 1768, who died.

The real key is "If she is a stepmother". Any thoughts on how I determine whether we are dealing with one Matts Mattsson with two wives (Margareta then Anna) or 2 Matts Mattssons living in Tomta one married to Margareta, and one married to Anna?
Thanks!

Hello Sister McIntyre,
I think I finally have this family straight and cleaned up in FS. Anna is a second wife, apparently married to Matts Mattson about 1754, after his first wife passed away when the twins were born in 1753.(This is based on what I found in the tax/census records) But now I want to add Anna as a second wife. You indicated that Anna remarried Anders Johnson and promptly had a child in 1768 who died - Where did you find that information? This is the last record I see for her

And I cannot read what is indicated in the "Till" column.
Thanks!

It seems to me that since Anna is listed as mother under Eric Matson, she must be your Matts Mattson's wife and you just add her as a second wife.
You have done a lot of work and attached many sources. Were you aware that when you use an ArkivDigital subscription, the record itself is blocked to all who do not have a subscription? I prefer to use sok.riksarkivet.se or the Swedish records from the catalog at FamilySearch. Also when you give a reference from ArkivDigital it is the same. Others must have a subscription in order to look at it.
I am so sorry, but I would have to see what I could find again, it has been so long. Did you have an Anna in FS before or just showing in the household record?

Thank you for your prompt response. I have attached a screen shot of what I can see in the household examination. I have circled what is written in the Till column, that I cannot read. I assumed that is what lead you to your statement that she had remarried and had a child. I am hoping to find some additional information (marriage record, death record, additional household examination) that will give some additional information about who she is before I add her to FS. To answer your question, she does not show up in FS at this point, at least not associated with Matts Mattson (MCJR-3NJ). I see her only in the one household examination (1765), as well as in the tax census for that year.
Thanks again for your help!

Did you ever find what you had found last month? I have found her in subsequent Household examinations, married to Anders Jansson, then as a widow, and finally her death record in 1786, but I am still stumped by finding the child you mentioned. I can see in the Household examination (Väddö (AB) AI:2a Image 41 Page 3) a daughter listed below her (Margareta born 1768, and listed as dead). But as I have gone through all of the Väddö birth records for 1768, There is a Margareta listed born to Olof Anderson and Maria in Soderfjal on 24 Nov 1768. Olof is the Son of Anders Jansson, so this is not a daughter of Anders and Anna. I have attached a screen shot of the household examination mentioned above, as well is a shot of a summary of sources that mention her. If you have any further information that points to a child of Anna and Anders, I would appreciate it.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi @JohnsonChristopherF JohnsonChristopherF, have you tried finding Matts Mattson's probate in Väddö, if he has one? His probate should be in the "Väddö och Häverö skeppslags häradsrätt"

Thanks for your suggestion. I did try to find a probate without success. But I think I have answered all of my questions on this one using the tax records I think I got a pretty good picture of the family before the household examinations are available. Thanks again for your interest
