New changes to the temple reservation system
Goes into effect October 1
The following is from an article in the help center:
What happens when ordinance reservations expire?
Information for Members
Starting on 1 October 2019, reserved ordinances will automatically expire on the date listed on your family names list. Here's what will happen to the names as they expire.
- Three weeks before the reservation expires, you will receive a FamilySearch message stating that the reservation is about to expire.
- The day after the expiration date, the names will be removed from your family names list.
- The names will be shared with the temple. The reserver's name will be listed as "FamilySearch."
- You will receive a FamilySearch message that the reservation has expired.
- You and other family members can reserve the shared ordinances unless a temple has begun the ordinance work. The ordinances will be available both through Family Tree and Ordinances Ready.
We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that was caused when an expired reservation was automatically removed from your list.
Names that get unreserved instead
In the following cases, the name is unreserved instead of being shared with the temple:
- The name no longer qualifies for ordinances.
- The reserved ordinances are for a person who was born less than 110 years ago.
Receiving notifications about expiring reservations
Before a reservation expires, you receive a FamilySearch message telling you about the upcoming expiration. The FamilySearch message identifies the person whose ordinances are expiring and provides a link to him or her in Family Tree.
After the reservation expires, you receive another message that also identifies the person whose reservation expired.
What to do
When ordinances are about to expire, you may want to take the opportunity to go to the temple and finish the ordinances. If that is not possible, you can also simply let the ordinances expire. The ordinances will be shared with the temple, and other members will perform them for you.
You can also unreserve the ordinances and then rereserve the ordinances.
If the reservation has already expired, you can also reserve the ordinances if a temple has not yet started the work. The information in the FamilySearch message can help you find the person again.
