Drozni location
I'm working through a family genealogy and see an entry that a relative arrived in the US from Drozni, Czechoslovakia. I cannot find Drozni on any current or historical maps. It is all I have to go on. Can anyone direct me?

On www.genteam.at, which is a wonderful free gazetteer (you will need to register), I could not find your exact spelling. I am posting a picture of the closest spellings.

Do you have a document that you can post that states Drozni, please? Do you have the immigration record?

Other potential spelling variations could include Drozny, Trozni, Trozny, Drotzni, Drotzny, Trotzni, Trotzny. I wouldn't rule out other variations that may switch out the 'o' for an 'a' or a 'u' either. (The spelling variations could be influenced by whether this is a Czech name for a town that originally had a German spelling, and also on the dialect in the area). I agree with Betseylee, it would be helpful if you can share a copy of the record where the town name is written.

Sorry for the delay in answering. We were in the high wind area for 3 days, losing internet occasionally, so I stayed off the computer completely. The "document" is nothing official. It is a typed genealogy done in 1978 that says: "They lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa, after arriving from Drozni, Czechoslovakia." This couple is more distantly related to me, but I came to have this from my 95-year old mother's genealogy files and totes. I've been trying to work my way through, checking and documenting what is in this 10-page genealogy. You may be correct about another spelling. That's not at all unusual, but it would be difficult to know how to start when all I have is Czechoslovakia as the birthplace for both people in this couple. I've looked at other people's trees and all I see is the country. Evidently, no one has cracked this location. I'll see if another spelling might help, but this may be a very slow process. Thank you for the direction you have given me.
