Are there any Tips & Tricks for attaching a record (census record) to a person? I am a Newbie.
I am beginning a project to improve records for my ancestors, starting with censuses. I attached a census to an ancestor, which seemed to work, except it stated that the record was not indexed (it is!). Because of that (I think) I was not able to also attach it to the person's family members on the same census. What am I missing?

I only have experience in attaching census sources from the England & Wales collections. In some cases, it is possible to add the record for multiple persons of the family (husband, wife and children) in one exercise. However, in certain circumstances this is not possible - the 1841 set being the main exception. This is because each person has usually been indexed individually, rather than as a family unit.
In these circumstances (or any other where you have the problem of only being able to attach one person at a time) you have to click on the small "head and shoulders" logo and select each individual, one by one, from the drop-down list. If their details (on the left side of the page) do not match the person on the right, you then have to select the appropriate (correct) person by clicking on the "Not your family? Find your family" option and choosing / manually entering the ID number for the person to whom you wish it to be attached.
Another problem relates to where the census enumerator divided one family over two pages in the original documents, so a younger child will even be indexed as "Head" of the family! Finding the "two halves" of the family can then be quite a problem!
In the example below, to attach the source / record to Susannah Potter, firstly you move her to the prime position, by clicking on the icon described. Then (if she is not correctly lined-up), you need to find her ID and add it to the box produced after clicking on the "Not your family? Find your Family" link.
Hope this is of help!

@Brett . Ah yes. Love your list of helps. I'm going to use much of it in my next class at Midvale Family History Center.
