What are some various duties for family history consultants .
Help members to have their 4 generations done, lead the members with indexing. These are some things, what else can they do considering the Family History center is closed?

We are encouraging members to add to their "Memories" regarding the personal/family experiences they are having during this period. Some experiences are truly spiritual; others are more temporal. In either case, we can add testimony of our personal growth through the challenges we face. We are also encouraging them to review the documentation hints that appear for individuals, and to add appropriate documentation to the Sources for the individual. Read the "Memories" that are entered for family members and ancestors; get to know them as individuals. This has always motivated me to do more research and find other documents or missing family members. Consultants--and individual members that have the skills required--can reach out to others and assist; contact via phone to determine status and interest, then reach out through FamilySearch "Helping Others" and assist in resolving roadblocks/brick walls others may experience.

Have your local cemeteries been documented in "FindAGrave" and "BillionGraves" websites? Organize youth to document; they can do as a group while maintaining social distancing.

Consultants could do Zoom calls where they can give one-on-one help to members. The consultant would walk the member through the steps needed to do whatever task the member would like to do. Teach them how to add memories, how to do research, where to go to gain partner access to Ancestry, Findmypast, etc.
We also have a Family History Center in the area that will take requests (requests made on their FB page or by email) and go to the FHC for them to look up the information.

Since the COVID19 has kept me at home. I have been helping 2 ward members and 4 grandchildren with their Family History by using our phones and the Help Others Feature. I call them and then access their FS file, they access their file, then we work together in finding Family members needing ordinances. Lately, our time has been correcting errors, finding source proof, etc.
This experience has brought me joy immeasurable and those I help are discovering the joy of the Spirit of Elijah. It has been especially fulfilling to work with our grandchildren. One of our families that I help lives in Puerto Rico. What a great blessing this has become for us all.

The consultants in our ward are doing same. We have several consultants (counting me) and we have a group of families assigned to each of us. Each month we send, as a group, a Family History newsletter packed with member testimonies of this beautiful work, ancestral short stories and many wonderful family history links. On a cover sheet we invite members to contact us for assistance with their family history pursuits.

We use the family history activity report to track TFH activity in certain areas and guide efforts - name submission is irrelevant now, but members logging in, adding ancestors, memories, etc., are still pertinent and discussed monthly in ward council. Helping the organizations implement the ward TFH plan, helping EQ/RS/YM/YW see that each member has their own FS account, going beyond 4 generations, etc., are some ongoing efforts in our ward. Consultants recently were asked to select a member of the ward council, arrange a 10-15 min virtual meeting, then prior to the meeting send the easy invitation link from the helper resources. Using either the planner or zoom, they then have the person log into FS, share screen, select a name identified in the discovery link, and show how/review the possible sources to be added, etc. The idea is to get the leaders to lead by doing, with the hope that this can help members do what their leaders are doing. We had a YW/YM challenge activity over a 6 wk period during the summer, which was fun and productive. Consultants helped teach "how to" and answered questions.

MLV2--I like your approach of having the consultants contact a ward council member and walk them thru the various processes. It's a great way to practice and develop the skills, and it energizes the ward council as well. Thanks for sharing.
We have just implemented a contacting activity for our consultants to reach out to less active and part member families to determine their FamilySearch and 4-generation status. The message conveyed is that they are important to us and that families are important as well. There are other collateral benefits as well that are often subtle, but lead to potential reactivation.

We are still encouraging members to submit ordinance requests and then share with the temple. As more and more temples are built, eventually all will be open and then the backlog of ordinance requests can be dealt with. It is easy to "unshare" should you later on wish to do the ordinance yourself. There is a huge amount of new online data arriving and in my lifetime I will never be able to complete all the ordinances myself so I share everything with the temple for now in any case.
