Where would I find Greek records of service to the country?
My great grandfather took my grandfather 4, back to Greece from America to do his year of service. I think it was 1904-1905. I believe they were from Georgitsi. I believe my great grandfather served in the army. I'm curious if the paperwork would have an address of where they stayed when they went back to Greece. I'd also like to find what his parents names were. My parents have actually gone to the village they lived in but couldn't find their names. I know that his father was a minister. I think their names were Peter Gouzoules and Christina Mallis but I've also been told that the spelling of the name Gouzoules was changed because the Greek alphabet doesn't have some of the same letters the US does. Also I know that the first time my great grandfather came to America he went by the name Louis Brown because when he first went to get a job the guy couldn't pronounce his name and told him he was now Louis Brown. The family had that name until my grandfather returned and went back to Elias Peter Gouzoules. Any direction I can go for Greek information will be helpful. I haven't found much on Ancestry or Family Search. Thanks!

Sarah, I am related to the Giouzelis family of Kremasti and Kyparissi. Your right there are different spellings, such as Giouzelis and Gkiouzelis. In fact, I am in touch with cousins who immigrated to Canada and they have a great deal of information. You may contact me directly if I can help. yankeegreek@gmail.com

Good afternoon
I don't know if this is relative, but there was a lawyer and journalist named Georgios Gouzoules (Γεώργιος Γκουζούλης), in Sparti. He was born around 1912 and was executed during the Nazi occupation of Greece in the 26th of November 1943. Here is an article (it is in Greek but you can use your browser's translator) about him:
I can also find a photo taken during WWII, from the National Archives of Greece - Archives of Messinia, showing a soldier named Dionisios Gouzoulis (Διονύσιος Γκουζούλης). The label says: "In the front line of the battlefield - Amongst the soldiers, Dionisios Gouzoulis 1941". P & G Koutsomitopoulou Archive
Here is the link (check the 16th photo):
There is also a Dimitrios Gouzoulis (Δημήτριος Γκουζούλης), elected in 7/9/1903 as mayor of the Municipality of Pellani (including Georgitsi). The search is here, in page 15:
I hope I was helpful
