What is the protocol to ask a question or a request for a translation and you did not get a response
How soon should you ask the question again, say 3 months because someone may come along and know the answer, but the original post is buried farther down and may not see it. Then should you repost the question again or should you reply to the original question? Will a reply move the original question back to the top of the list of questions? Thank you for your help.

Yes, it was posted on the Czechia site on September 15th. Here is what I asked:
I would like to have help with the translation of Aquinas Lindauer's Marriage Record.
The record is on the right hand side of the page and is dated November 14, 1694. This is from the parish of Strýčice České Budějovice in Bohemia. I can read Aquinas Lindauer son of Matthie? Lindauer. What are the next two words that follow? I then can read Barbara daughter of Joannis. What is the surname & the words that follow. Also can you tell me the names of the witnesses. Natalie ... you ask a very good question and I do remember your post. I am guilty of not doing what I suggest now. If someone reads a post and checks an entry ... but still cannot read it then just post that information. That way you know (the poster) knows someone else saw it. Here is my comment that I should have made earlier. I read the record ... could understand Aquinas Lindauer ... but could not read the rest. My suggestion if at all possible look through the records to see if another record in that time period has been made ... perhaps for a sibling ... that might be easier to read. Not always true. In the future if I take a look at a post and cannot read it, I will write that as my response. And now I will go back and see if that reading makes easier sense for me.

Natalie ... it appears to be Aquinas Lindauer son of Matthias -- although the spelling could be off .. likely the name is Matthew but spelled in either czech or latin. Sometimes it is written as Matej .... it does appear to be matthie ... I believe the next two words relate to his origin. It appears to be Jindry ... see the record above it. There also seem to be other Lindauer records on the same page. I will take a look at mapy.cz and see if I spot anything.

Thank you very much Susan. I think the first letter may be an L instead of J because it does not match the J's in Joannis and I found a historic map and I found a village called Linden south of Strýčice. I did not even notice the Lindauer entry above Aquinas. Any guess on what Barbara's maiden name or at least what the first letter may be. It's not a J or an L.

I'm going to go back and re-read it. I did see the witnesses names .... not the surnames but the first names. Ambrose looks like Cigbrsin and Melchior. Good that you checked the older map ... I forgot to do that. Will take another look ... and also good idea to do what you did ... look at letters where the word makes sense and try and identify the letter. I sometimes have trouble with S L B ... I'll be back later.

Natalie ... my best guess for Barbara's surname is Do...sko. Are there any indexes available for these records? I don't know how to navigate this particular archive .. something for me to learn this year (smile) As for the villages ... in an older map there are two that might fit. Dobra ....and Dobra Litz...the other village is Dobra Nowiny Maybe genteam.at might show alternate names for the village

I see now that I anwered the question about the first letter of Barbara's surname .... I looked again at my script pages and still believe the first letter is Do.... sko.

Susan, thank you so much for your help! Sometimes it just takes another pair of eyes and ideas. Unfortunately the Strýčice Register book 1 from 1689 - 1761 does not have an index. However, I am so glad you mentioned an index. Luckily there are 2 Strýčice Registers books 11 & 12 and even though it starts in 1753 they are master indexes. I figured if Joannis' family line did not die out then his surname should be in there and it is. The surname is Doschko! I can see that Ambrose is from Linden and Melchior is from Dobra Litz. My vision lately has been so blurry but tonight with your help I can read a lot more. You have been so helpful!

All you said is so good .... reading is so difficult especially for those older records. Great you found the name in the index too. Every once in a while you do have to take a rest ...maybe even put in eye drops to moisturize ... I find that with reading online my eyes tend to stay open rather than blink. You don't realize it until you actually feel your eyes dry. It is interesting to to see the alphabet and how names are spelled .... I think they didn't use the letter I all the time ...sometimes used a J for Jiannes ... it can be spelled Ioannes or Joannes. And then seeing the name in the index gives one another idea about actually reading the handwriting. We are so lucky to have those records ... despite the difficulty of reading. Have a good day.
