Could someone translate a birth record for me please and possibly explain how a person who was born
Hello,
I have found a birth record for Salvatore Scibona as part of the documents in a marriage processetti that I would like to have translated. This man (and also his brother) have original birth records that say Ignato Padre and Madre. Later in life, they both have somehow taken the surname "Scibona". Is there any explanation in this document linked below that might explain how he obtained this surname?
Thank you,
Joseph Bisazza

sorry, i don't know english. I translate with Google
The surname may have be en taken either as a result of recognition by the parents or by adoption.
In the document you sent there is talk of Salvadore "di Dio" non "Scibona" and it is also written that the father and mother were unknown, so "Di Dio" is the surname assigned by the registrar at birth.
On the back of the birth certificate it is written that the sacrament of baptism was administered to "Salvadore di Dio" ..... so the surname is like this from birth.
Where did you find Scibona?

Hi @JosephBisazza JosephBisazza , I've read the document you submitted but, as written by Viviana, Scibona surname hasn't been never mentioned. Salvatore di Dio (as I know "di Dio" is used as surname when parents are unknown) is probably born in 1823 and the act of birth is this SalvatoreLink (I got it from marriage date minus 19 that is Salvatore's age at the marriage). Please let us know your thoughts, info about Salvatore's brother and the origin of Scibona surname. Have a nice research! Regards!

Viviana and Massimo, Thank you for your responses.
Here is the birth record for Salvatore Scibona from his Matrimoni Processitti in Mirabella Imbaccari. He was born on 11 April 1823. No mother or father were named on the birth record.
Then, here is his death record:

He now has a surname, Scibona and a mother recorded on the record. How did he get the surname Scibona? Was he adopted by a woman named Giuseppa Scibona at some point after his birth?

Hi @JosephBisazza JosephBisazza thank you for your post! I've checked the death record you submitted but in my opinion we are not talking about the same person mentioned into the marriage certificate (posted by you) and the birth certificate (posted by me), because into the death certificate is written that Salvatore was 77 years old so 1891 - 77 = 1814 and this differs of 9 years from what mentioned into the marriage certificate 1842 - 19 = 1823.
Into the FamilySearch catalog for Mirabella there is the index of deaths 1866-1895 and the only Salvatore di Dio are 3 but for all of them only the father is unknown, so Salvatore di Dio could be dead before 1866 or after 1895. Into the same index I've checked also for Scovazzo Maria, the wife of Salvatore di Dio, but also for her no mention into the index so also Maria could be dead before 1866 or after 1895.
Please, let us know your concerns! Do you know other data of your Salvatore and his brother? Do you have a genealogical tree in FamilySearch for having a better look?
Regards and have a nice research! Massimo

Hi,
Ok that makes sense that the person on the marriage certificate and the one on the death record are not the same Salvatore Scibona. However, would you look at these two marriage records and tell me if you think that these two people were born of the same mother without a named father please? And if so, do you think she simply had two children out of wedlock?

Sorry I meant to say death records for the two men, not marriage records.

Do you have a genealogical tree in FamilySearch for having a better look?

Yes I do. My entire tree is in Family Search. I am the root of the tree, Joseph Anthony Bisazza.

Hi Joseph, it's not possible to me say if Scibona Giuseppa is the mother for both Giuseppe e Salvatore. Just mentioning the name into the certificate it's not enough!
Seeing you tree I saw the Salvatore's son got married in in 1874 and here you can find not the marriage certificate but the attachments to the certificate. Try to read it and let us know if it could be useful for you.
Have a nice research!
