Just stumbled on to 1914 Arizona School Census showing my great-grandmother... I was searching for her brother, who has a really unique name: Dewey Sabin, but it shows the parents' names and all the children in school. See in Ancestry:

I contacted the University where my grandfather attended. They sent me copies of several things from his files. I learned where he attended grade school. They sent photos of him from the yearbook. I learned about awards that he had received in grammar school. I thought it was a great find.
I think that we should remember to look deep, because there are so many stories to be told when we find these treasures.

He attended Crossan Grammar School, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This building of this school was completed in 1924.
Estimate 1930-1934 attended Frankford High School, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The man that I would like to find school records on is:
Frank Woodworth Yetter, Jr. born 13 May 1911 in Providence, Rhode Island. Frank moved to Philadelphia in about 1925. He may have attended the same schools as Bert. Their residences were in a similar area in Philadelphia.

Yes, these yearbook collections are great! Did you know that you can search for school records at familysearch.org too? I remember finding some collections for a girl that we were researching in Oklahoma.

At FamilySearch, I just started on the basic Search Historical Records page:

The actual search terms that I used included the girls name, an approximate birth date with a range of years. I did know the girls mother's name and I included this, along with the state.

I am so glad that we have both sites to check out. I have loved finding photos on Ancestry in the yearbooks. I have also found some invaluable family information in the school records at FamilySearch. For instance, we were trying to find an adoptee and we were able to see several sets of school records for girls that had the same or a similar name. I loved that the records sometimes included the parents names, siblings names, ages, addresses and other details. These details really helped me tie the families together. I was able to eliminate the wrong matches by using this information.
I was really excited when I found an uncommon name in the Ancestry yearbooks. I copied the photo of the teenage boy and then asked another family member when they moved to California. Unfortunately, the yearbook photo of the boy with the same name was in California before the guy that I attached his photo to. I was sure that I had uncovered a family story about why the boy went to California a few years earlier than the rest of his family. Moral of the story: Be very careful! There can be more than one person with the same name, even if you think that the name is so unusual!

and the ancestry yearbook database appears to be pretty massive - just see what you get with a rare name like Frank Yetter

I've found multiple pictures of living and recently deceased family members in yearbooks on Ancestry.
