5,000 Family Bibles now person-tagged by the Family Bible Preservation Project
Over 5,000 family bibles stored in FamilySearch Memories have now been tagged by the Family Bible Preservation Project.
This is an incredible milestone - and is a perfect example of what is possible when people work together.
We live in a world where so many incredible things can be accomplished using the synergy of a vast group of people. Quite a drastic opposite to what genealogy was often like for people in the 20th century - where so many people seemed to be researching inside their own "silo" and being very possessive of their own totally controlled database.
More than ever it is important to see the power and possibilities of what can come from the sum of efforts of a large group working together. Some example besides this project - include the FS Indexing projects - which I dont have any clue how many names they have indexed - but I wouldnt at all be surprised if it is in the billions of names.
OR another example is FINDAGRAVE.COM where for example in my family we now have photos of just about every Yancey out there that has a marked grave. Because we have all worked together - alongside thousands of photo volunteers - to gather these records.
OR the value of sites like the Research Wikis on FS that can be edit/improved - by virtaally anyone who has the desire.
NOW dont get me wrong - with anything there are pros and cons
and surely there are some aspects of this that are viewed in a negative light.
that is with anything -
BUT
if we step out of our normal mode of thinking
if we attempt to respectfully and tactfully work positively with others
if we realize that not everyone has the same thoughts and perspective
if we worry more about PEOPLE that we do about FACTS and projects
if we attempt to BUILD bridges and not walls.
if we quit judging things as if they were in their final state - and rather judge them by how they could be - if we stepped in and tried to make a positive difference.
then I truly believe that we can be part of a miracle, many miracles.
I would invite all of you to look for opportunities to GIVE BACK to the genealogical community - instead of just always "taking" and "judging"
there are thousands of opportunities to share your expertise and experiences in a positive way while you work along side others.
