I usually look at the date of the event and change the name accordingly to that time of the event happening.

If there is a red exclamation mark next to a place name (as you all know) and you open the box to correct it, there will be suggestions as to the dates when this place name is relevant. Choose the relevant date and it will change to standardise it.
