How can I transfer my FamilySearch tree to My Heritage?

@NancyPence1 NancyPence1 - FamilySearch does not allow us to directily download a GEDCOM of our part of the Tree. But if you own one of the many stand-alone programs like RootsMagic, Legacy, FamilyTreeMaker, etc. they all have a feature to download your tree from FS into their program. Once your tree is in that program you then can create a GEDCOM of your data. Go to MyHeritage and after signing in go to My Tree to Import GEDCOM and follow the directions and you will have a tree in My Heritage.

@NancyPence1 NancyPence1 it is my understanding (if I’m remembering correctly) when you initiallyconnect your fs LDS Church account to the partner site “MyHeritage” (by using the connection links found on fs) the MyHeritage site gives you the option to download/sync your FSFT ... I think this is the only “partner” that does this, I’m not completely sure.
if you already have your church account with MyHeritage, you will need to sign in to MyHeritage via FS, then you can go to the menu in MyHeritage, click “family tree”, then click the “FamilySearch sync” option and it will automatically sync your portion of the FSFT 😊

@X24mom X24mom I tried this recently, and you are correct. I ran into issues with my merge however... and I still need to reach out to MyHeritage to see why because as far as I can tell, everything with the ancestors in question is in order.

Amber, from my limited understanding of this, for this to work you must create a "Special" FS tree in your MyHeritage account. You do this by downloading records directly from the FSFT. You can only sync this special MH tree with the FSFT.
Also this tree is limited in functions to protect the FSFT. For example, you cannot load GEDCOM files into it. You mentioned something about "issues with my merge". If you are talking about the "Treebuilder" function at MyHeritage, that is also restricted on the special FS sync'able MH trees. If you have a pre-existing MH tree that you want to move information over into your FS sync'able MH tree, you will have to do it a piece at a time, and then when done you can sync the tree with FS

@Amber Marstella Rothamer im not sure why that happened with yours. I recently helped a member of the church to connect their FS account to the partner sites and the first things My Heritage asked was to import tree and it was literally just a simple tap on the screen and thousands of ancestors and their info appeared as a family tree on MyHeritage. It was extremely simple... I’m not familiar with the “special tree” that @JeffWiseman JeffWiseman has mentioned... in my recent experience with connecting FSFT to MyHeritage it was quick and simple ... I was actually kinda shocked at how well everything worked out and so quickly too!

X24, that tree that you created on MyHeritage with the "simple tap on the screen" *IS* the "special tree" that I referred to. If you were to now create another "ordinary" tree in MH using the standard tree creating methods that all MH patrons use, you would be able to do things with it that you CANNOT do with the tree that was created from the FSFT. GEDCOM and Treebuilder merge features are not allowed on trees that can be sync'ed with the FSFT.

I misspoke near the top of this thread. I connected with the free "LDS" account right when it was first offered. At that time there was no way to download a tree from FS in MH - this feature came later. As Jeff mentions that tree that can be downloaded is "Special" - special in that there are tools you can't use with this FS linked tree.
There is a huge reason for this. When they first offered this feature a cousin of mine gedcomed in a bunch of duplicate data into the tree he had downloaded from tree and then synced the tree with FS which brought in a terrible mess. The sync also stole all the soures in Tree and reinserted them back in tree but labled them as MH sources. What a mess. So restrictions are put on these linked trees so the sync process is stable on both ends.
It is amazing all the great benefits these partnerships provide. As the consumer you just need to be able to learn all the ins and outs of the various programs.

Yea, the sync'ing between FS and the MyH "FS Special" tree is quite unique and interesting in itself (which does kinda make me nervous).
The relationship of the FSFT to the "FS special" tree within MyH is like the relationship of the United States to a United States embassy in a foreign country. Dealing with the US embassy is identical to dealing directly with the US itself. It is an extension of the US. It is US soil in the foreign county. Those "special" trees in MyH are FSFT "soil". They *ARE* the FSFT. All laws and rules are the same even though you are approaching it from a MyH account.
But just like an embassy being surrounded by foreign rules, there are risks of the embassy rules being overrun if care is not taken.

Ya... I'll probably try again when I have more time to address the error. I didn't screen shot it, so I'll have to try it again and see if it happens. If so, I'm gonna have to reach out engineers at MH I think. Probably just something wonky in how the code was transmitted from FS to MH.
