Sort Answer: Hard Work.
.
It takes YEARS of Hard Work - researching.
Many of us have been at it for MANY Years.
.
Not that we call ourselves ... "Genealogists" ...
We just do "Genealogy"/"Family History" ...
.
Another option is that you can go to a "Family History Centre" of the Church anywhere around the world, the Staff Members at a FHC will HELP and GUIDE you - some have many years of experience
.
Of Course, you can always do a 3 Year "Degree" at "Brigham Young University" ( BYU ) in Provo, Utah, United States of America - the only drawback it you have to do it there; as, it is not 'On-Line' - I know, I have been there to enquire.
.
It is just, Research, Practice; and, ESPECIALLY, learning from others.
.
It is NOT a '5 Minute job'.
.
I know that this does not help; but, I hope that it puts things into perspective.

Deb,
One way is to become certified. I am about to post an event you might find helpful: "Becoming a Certified Genealogist: A Personal Journey" by the Utah Genealogical Society's Virtual Chapter. I will include your name at the end of the post so you receive the information on Tuesday's webinar.

@Deb DebVarga If you've been in FamilySearch looking around your family lines, if you've talked with family members to learn about your family's past, if you've read about the life of an ancestor, or any like activity, you're a beginning genealogist!
To learn and grow as a genealogist is a great journey. So many paths you could take. The link that @Carol Lou Hill shared is a great place to start. The site that the link takes you to is a site approved by FamilySearch as a training resource. I would also recommend finding a mentor or two that can be along for the journey. When family history centers are up and running again, I'd recommend going as regularly as you can. That is how I got started. If you need to talk to someone the FamilySearch missionaries can be reached by calling 1-866-406-1830 or feel free to message me and I'll share my number so we can talk. I love helping people enjoy their genealogy journey!
Blessings,
Patty
