Bacalky online records
I found an ancestor from the Czech Republic Rosa Prusa (Prusovi) born 12/9/1901. Her parents were Josef Prusa (born abt 1866) and Marie Halbick
On her naturalization papers in said she was born in the town of Bacalka. I did find a town named Bacalky. It is in the Jicin District and the Hradec-Kralove region.
Does anyone know if there are any online church or census records for the town of Bacalky? Thanks for any help you can offer.- Carl

I found a town called Balcalka in the gazatteer Genteam. It is a free gazatteer but you must register. It provides a link to the archives. Look for Osenice parish after you click the blue link.

Thank you for your help Betsylee! I do not know their religion unfortunately. I understand catholic is the most common.
I've tried to regsister for the genteam site but I am having a problem. They sent me a link to press to verify email address but logging in did not work. Maybe I have to wait for a moderator to approve.. not sure.
I got to link you mentioned on FS (collection 1804263) and didn't see Bacalky listed. I selected Jicin and it brought up another list of names, but not Bacalky.
Let me check with you on Civil Records and Censuses. Do you think any of these exist for this town?

Genteam has to approve you, so just wait. You need to look for the parish in the church records which is Osenice. You will have to search all the religions. Yes I do think there will be church records. I do not think there will be census records.

I did finally get an approval from that site.
I'm really going to have to take some time to figure out how this archive works. I am finding it difficult because it is all in czec. I'm going to take this long weekend and try and see what I can find. But I very much appreciate your help.-Carl

I believe I found their marriage record! .. but I sure could use help translating the key facts from the record.

This is quite a record. It states quite a bit of info. I think I will try to figure it out on a group sheet. If you know anything about the parents and grandparents of Josef Prusa and Marie Halbych it would help.

The bride's record is quite complicated but with some great help I got it figured out. I have posted the names on FamilySearch Family Tree so you can get the lines correct. Josef Prusa is GWQJ-2BC. So if you already have added him there you can merge your record with this record or vice versa. I will write out the source and add it there too. I am still working on the translation.

Oh the mysteries continue..I've found 2 records today.
1) Baptism Record (April 3, 1871) of Marie Halbych from Prague(New town section), they wouldn't let you download so I had to do a screen capture.
I would sure appreciate help translating what is
in this closeup capture.
I don't understand why the mothers maiden name is not used (unless it is actually the same last name as her husband, Josef Halbych

The 2nd record I found is a Death Record of Joseph Prusa. In the marriage record of Josef Prusa and Marie Halbych, he was named as the father of Josef, but it also said he was dead. Surprisingly I found this death record in 1891 in Bacalka. it was the same year as Josef Prusa and Marie Halbych were married (Febuary 4, 1891)

Are you willing to start your learning curve in how to read the records? I don't speak German or Czech. I am self taught. Not that I am always right on the button, but I get by. I like to teach people how to fish. You will have so many records to translate in this line, in different archives, that you need to learn how to do this. It is fun! Have you taken the handwriting webinars offered that I have linked to the links on the main page. Take these classes. You are in the Troppau (under Opava archives), aren't you? The FamilySearch Wiki will help you tremendously https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Czech_Republic_Genealogy. So do these classes. Then look at your record and see what you can make out. Write down as much as you can and post it back on here and I will help you with what you cannot figure out. Also, please provide the link not the record so I can enlarge the image. On the top of the page is a button that says "Direct Link to Scan". Many times you have to compare records to figure out the letters.
I am not going to leave you out on a limb. I usually translate the first record and then begin the teaching process. Most sites want you to try to translate before they help you. For example, one Czech facebook site states:

Please add the children to Josef and Maria on FamilySearch as I don't know when they were born. It looks like his death certificate. Please send a link for both records. I need to read the full christening record but on the marriage record it appears she is illegitimate because it lists the mother's name first not the father's. Did you have questions about the marriage record translation?

Hi Betseylee, We have had a very unexpected death in our family and I have been out of the loop for about 10 days. I'm sorry I have not been able to get back to you. Up until yesterday I have paused any research I have been doing.
Let me address a number of issues,
-I am getting better using/ finding the various databases for church records, but it is a very long and tedious process because there are a number of different towns that these families are found in. Your genteam site has been a blessing.
-I am getting better at identifying dates/months which is helping find key records. I can usually confirm some names but have tremendous difficulty with other names.
-I am trying to only focus on direct ancestors and not the siblings ( you had asked about that.) But I am seeking sibling records when necessary to help me find a missing link. I found an important marriage record by using siblings birth years and the direct ancestor was about 10 years older than I originally thought.
But while this is a start, it leads me to some huge frustrations
-Google translate seems worthless to me.. I use an American keyboard and I rarely have success without all the dialect markings the czec language uses.
-I will try and use links where possible, but some key areas (Like Bacalky) do not allow to provide a link. You have to download the entire archive onto your harddrive. I am forced to upload the image or a screen capture.
-I will try and be more specific on translation help, I'm just looking for help on key names / facts. I don't need a word for word translation of the whole document. I will try and say at least what I can read (which will be very little).
Anyway, sorry for this long winded reply - Carl

First of all, I am sorry for you loss. With having to deal with issues with the virus and then have a death on top of it all would be hard to deal with.
A couple of things that will help you. For given names this is a helpful site: http://sites.rootsweb.com/~scoconee/names.html. I downloaded the hardcopy and put it in a binder. For the surnames I use this site to see if the name exists like I am spelling it. https://www.kdejsme.cz/?fbclid=IwAR22gjeUjcKnFBCcJjJQBN3BkBzGBFLHfEeniXjD3zm2GewEzZe9FOqHx6Y Just put the surname in the search engine at the top of the page. Keep in mind also that the priests were more careful with writing in the indexes. Sibling records to help you to decipher the record better because maybe they spelled a town clearer or a surname better.
I do not have a way to do all the diacritics. You can google the name and see if you can find a place where they have typed it on the internet.
