How do I separate one individual who is actually three of the same name, but only one FS ID number?
I have an ancestor, John Rumsby -- 1700s in England, so records and details are sparse - but on FS he is shown with four wives - some of them concurrent, and in different locations! I believe that there are really three Johns - one married twice and the the other two each once. This appears to be not due to merging (so cannot un-merge) but rather adding new wives to one person. How can the three Johns be separated with their own individual IDs? One problem, is that I am uncertain which one should remain attached to the listed parents (although I believe they are not the parents of the John I am descended from). As mentioned, it is 1700s so the sources and details are limited.

I just took a look at the "ChangeLog" for "John RUMSBY" ( L581-YXL ).

Although, the Record for that individual/person was ONLY "Created" in 2016 in "Family Tree", that Record has had THREE (x3) "Merges"/"Combines" since then.
.
You would need to investigate ALL those "Merges"/"Combines" to get a better 'Picture' of what has happened/transpired.

Two (x2) of those that were "Merged"/"Combined" [and, subsequently "Deleted" (or, a better term is "Archived" - as they can be Restored")] where from the predecessor to "Family Tree", being "New.FamilySearch" (pre.2012).

Users/Patrons make mistakes.

You can only do what you can.
.
You may be able to separate that 'mess' by "Restoring" the "Deleted" (ie. "Archived" individuals/persons); but, even then, you may need to do some 'cosmetic surgery' to address/fix everything properly - as best that you can.
