Most of the problems I find in Family Tree are due to merging people with the same name that shouldn't have been merged. Occasionally, people don't recognize the duplicate and build whole separate trees. 0 -
If I think something's "hinky," I apply the four standard identifications: name, date, place, and family. plus sources. We all know these can vary. In two families I found, the parents appeared to have the same names and were within a couple years of each other (census dating). The kids had the same names but with more date variation. The kicker was the place. Turns out they lived on different sides of a major river--over several censuses.
That took some sorting out.
