John Ansley; all information found in an out-of-print booklet entitled, "Our Ansley Family" by Harold Ansley Davidson, copyright 1933. According to that John Ansley was born 1745 in Middlesex, England. It does not say when he came to the States but originally settled in Connecticut with his wife, Eunice, and migrated to Pike County, PA approximately 1774 which is where he supposedly died in 1806.

Thank you, I had found the book on archives.org and I believe it is available in the Fort Wayne Library up north of me. (Would love to go there some time!) In relationship to the Ansley branch I belong to, I believe this book is as reliable as possible. The author states in a note upfront what forms of documentation he followed and actually refers to himself as a "compiler". As for my research, I've relied on what can be found on the internet: Ancestry.com, FamiySearch.org and various newspaper sites. From those, I feel fairly confident on my descendant from John Ansley to Joseph Ansley to Jonas Ansley to Marcus Ansley.

just wondering how much research based on primary sources you have done
versus just collecting info on Ancestry.com etc.
but from what I have seen - yes it seems most people are in agreement as to this line.
do you know many other people also researching the Ansleys?

A couple years ago on a trip East, I did visit Pike County, PA but only had a couple hours to spend. Thought the best place to research would be their historical society but was GREATLY disappointed. They didn't have much available. I've also found tibits about my Ansley branch in various books; "Genealogical and Family History of The Wyoming and Lackawanna Valleys Pennsylvania", "History of Scranton and the Borough of Lackawanna County", "History of Wayne County", "History of Wayne, Pike and Monroe Counties Pennsylvania", and "Commemorative Biographical Record of Northeastern Pennsylvania including the counties of Susquehanna, Wayne, PIke and Monroe". As for documentation, I have only been able to get my hands on my g-grandmother's divorce deposition and marriage licenses. I had hoped that the Pike County Historical Society would have records of birth, marriage & death, but no luck!

Whoops, forgot to mention that I tried contacting someone in the Ansley family who still lives in Pike County, PA and while she politely answered my email, she didn't seem interested in helping me with my quest.
