The Earliest Yanceys of America
a note to us all - Please be cautious of what you enter into FamilySearch Family Tree - as to the earliest Yanceys in AMERICA. There is quite a bit of misinformation about our earliest reported ancestors (which is pretty typical of any family)
Unless anyone can prove otherwise - there is not a single shred of evidence for Yanceys prior to 1704 - which is the earliest known citation of the existence of a Yancey.
Most any purported info concerning Yanceys before that has usually originated out of guesses, theories, mistakes and people copying such with no thought for documental support. - and usually coming into existence by people in the last decade or so (and not indicative of family info passed down through the generations)
Here are some pages concerning what is known about early Yanceys
I very much welcome any findings or thoughts by others - to dd to this info.
We are all in this together.

I would suggest that all of us - as we build our genealogical databases
that we at least attempt to differentiate between info that can be backed up by primary source information (or even secondary sources that refer to primary sources) and differentiate that between info that we have just "collected" or copied from places like Ancestry.com or Rootsweb or similar places with no thought of what sources support the purported facts.
not all information "is of equal weight". so please be careful in presenting it as if it was.
and since FamilySearch Family Tree is a collaborative database - please be very cautious of inputting data that is unsubstantiated - and very possibly - - rolling back the work of others who have tried to remove erroneous information from the database before you.
