Have you ever thought of FamilySearch Family Tree as a sorting house for records?
People sift through historical records and sort them by attaching them as sources to individuals in Family Tree. That’s a lot of sorting going on! If some records get attached as sources to the wrong individuals, an experienced researcher (a lot fewer of those than inexperienced researchers) notice the incorrect records and remove them from the individual on Family Tree. But that’s one that they have to remove, while there might have been 1-50 that were attached correctly. That’s a lot of work the experienced researcher doesn't have to do.
And just for fun on the topic of sorting: https://youtu.be/ywWBy6J5gz8
