It's possible he could be from Kamyanets Podilskyy, now located in Ukraine.
Do you know which religion he belonged to? This will help us determine what records might be available.
Also, do you know if he was from the city itself or a surrounding area? Do you have any additional sources that provide clues about the hometown?

Hi,
They were Greek Orthodox and when the church closed, they went to the Anglican church. Unfortunately, this is my roadblock. I have nothing else other than he arrived in Canada in 1911, but his immigration records have yet to be found.

Have you tried searching this collection?
I'm not seeing any Greek catholic records in the catalog for Krakow. But there are some Roman catholic ones, but there are quite a few - might take some time to go through them.

Yes, I have. He does not appear there. Krakow is Polish records - no? Why would a person go through that catalog?
Thanks,
Deb

Deb,
Many of these records are not yet indexed, which means they can't be searched simply by typing in a name. Instead, they have to be searched through page, by page to find the people you are looking for. By looking in the catalog, you can see exactly which records are available for the location that you need

These are the records available on FamilySearch for Krakow. You could also check https://szukajwarchiwach.pl/ and https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/ to see what they have.

Deb, I just realized that I was helping two people at one - one dealing with Krakow in the Poland genealogy research group and yours. I accidentally put on here to have you look for greek catholic records in the catalog for Krakow when that should have gone to the other person! I'm sorry about that and to be so confusing!!

I will look to see what records are available for your location Sorry about that, I totally thought you were the one that needed help with Krakow. Oops!

Что бы найти метрические книги( записи ) надо узнать населенный пункт точно , где он родился . Не только губернию , но и село , деревню , город .

Это записи метрических Лютеранской церкви , Каменец - Подольск. Я думаю , что ваши предки были православными .

Yes, Larissa makes a good point. It's important to know the name of the village. Do you know if your ancestors were from the city of Kamyanets Podilskyy itself or just from the region? Narrowing that down will help to find records.
The links that Larissa posted above are from some Russian WWII military websites. They can be a good way to determine where a surname is coming from.

Hi,
These last few posts, how to I get the English translation? I also do not know the name of the village. I was hoping his naturalization papers would say, but they don't. They don't even know the port he came to.

If you use the browser Google Chrome, you can right click anywhere on the page and it will translate it into English for you!

Is it possible to research a marriage record with just the names of his parents?

Marriage records for this area are not indexed which means you aren't able to just type in a name to search for records, which necessitates page by page searching for the record. That's why knowing the exact town they came from is so important.
