Hi @Francesca Rose my assumption based off this Deseret News article when the policy changed last year is that it initially started a hundred years ago (https://www.deseret.com/2019/5/6/20672524/latter-day-saint-leaders-eliminate-yearlong-wait-period-for-temple-sealing-following-civil-marriage) but I'm struggling to find a reliable date. I'm going to move your question over to the @Temple Work and My Family group here in the Community to see if someone might have more insight there.
