Week 21 (May 17-May 23) Let’s inspire each other. Have you created any decorative items in your home
- Share your photo arrangements from your wall.
- Have you made a photo quilt/pillow or other craft?
- Have you painted your ancestor?
- Do you have a tree with your ancestors as wall art?
- Have you made a game for your kids using information/photos about your ancestors?
Let's share some ideas of what you have created, or wish to create. How does this help your family know about their ancestors?

I started this small quilt years ago. (This image only shows part of the quilt.) I used scraps from other projects and used photos of my maternal ancestors. I chose to tint the photos with a pink/purple tone to match the fabric. (I'm not sure that I would have chosen to do this now, but I liked it then.)
I need to finish this project. Maybe during quarantine would be a good time to finish this?
What can you inspire us with?

I have planned a shadow box to display 3 spoons with pictures of their owners. One is from my Husbands Mother, one from her Mother and one from her Mothers Mother. The story goes that my husbands great Grandmother and Grandfather were killed in a terrible tornado. The Tornado destroyed their house and they were not found. (And incidentally, they always wished to "go" or die at the same time, be careful what you wish for, because their desire came true.) When cleaning up the destruction of their house this spoon was found and a box of pictures. Talk about Ancestors Treasures!!!! That's why I think this shadow box will be significant to my children and grandchildren. I'll send pictures when I figure out how to mount the spoons. Any experience mounting? Please share. Thanks Pam

I love this idea of creating a shadow box with the spoons AND the photos of their ancestors. I hope to one day own some very abused spoons from one of my ancestors. I have only seen them once, but they looked pretty mangled and worn. I would love to know the story of them. I was not aware that they existed until the owner had dementia. I may never know more than the names of the owners that were listed on a piece of paper.

Tornadoes and Disasters...there is a very useful website called GenDisasters. http://www.gendisasters.com/
This site links to newspaper articles about Train Wrecks, Fires, Floods, Shipwrecks, Plane Crashes, Accidents and other disasters. Most of these articles list the dead and injured or missing. There is a Search function to search for individuals by name. You can also browse the articles by type of disaster, state or year.

This is my entry way into my home. Everyone stops to look at the ancestor photos and it is a great conversation piece.

I LOVE that! I can't wait till I have a good place to display all of my ancestor photos. I love that you have mixed new photos with old photos. Did you try the free colorization tool that MyHeritage had available? I don't know if it is still available. It would be fun to see how the old photos looked in color. I love having a copy of them as a black and white and a color. I've been trying to think how I could display both versions. Maybe on the opposite side of the hall wall?
What do you think?
