My Initial Reaction to CET
Today 4-4-25: My set up: Roots Magic 7 and 9 on Windows 11 Pro HP 2024 Laptop, Browser is Duck Duck Go.
I uploaded first my tree from an RM9 gedcom with 3354 persons, including media files and notes; 29 upload errors noted. What a mess. Media files not uploaded but information placed in Collaborate; Dates in Vitals all CAPS; Event names in Events all CAPS: e.g. PROBATE, WILL, etc. Not all sources uploaded; no dates on sources; more Collaborate items than source items on some people. There simply isn't a way I could spend the time to straighten this out. It would be easier to start a new tree than try and fix this one.
I then uploaded a RM7 gedcom with 7587 persons, with no media files, but with notes. Same problems as above. This tree uploaded with only 5 upload errors.
Under LATEST CHANGES, both trees are showing at least one or more changes for every person in the tree, the first person instance showing my name as the contributor and the rest are "Unknown Contributor." Again, fixing this would be incredibly time consuming and just not worth it.
I understand there may be a "tree2tree" option in the works. That would hopefully eliminate the need to upload a gedcom file which simply does not convert to a viable, usable tree without extensive repairs.

Uploaded RootMagic10 GEDCOM. Took all day. Many things left out - re perhaps one "Residence" fact out of several contained in the original RootsMagic entry. Notes do not transfer to any area and I have extensive notes. All hints have to be added again since you cannot merge from the original FamilySearch Tree to the CET. Since they don't come over with all information from RootsMagic and don't merge with the already used FamilySearch Tree information - CET is basically useless to me at this time. Not worth the time to reconstruct all persons in the tree. Hopefully the "tree2tree" option will happen.

Uploaded a gedcom that I had downloaded from my smaller Ancestry tree. 1547 People. 2 upload errors, 1 regarding a source, the other regarding missing information. This uploaded gedcom did a little better. There are some links in the sources to the sources OUTSIDE of ancestry, such as Fold3, Newspapers.com and Findagrave. Otherwise it just states it is an Ancestry source and gives the information. The Latest Changes lists every single person who has at least one change and there are a lot of "Title Not Found" after a Source Added is listed. I have been able to use the Research Helps which allowed me to add a source with the Source Linker. The "Find" tool works as well and I have used it several times. My only problem with the 3 gedcom trees I have uploaded is that the sources and notes are so discombobulated from the original tree that it makes it nearly impossible to work with a gedcom uploaded tree. Even with only 1547 people, it is a gargantuan task to fix the sources and notes problem. Then there's the problem of having to reattach all the media files, because gedcoms do not transfer media files. I truly like the idea of having a tree at Family Search that only I can change. There are far too many changes being made to the "One World Tree" that are being done by inexperienced people or people who want it their way or else. Too many mistakes being made; too much time correcting errors, etc. I am hopeful that Family Search can deliver on the "tree share" concept, where a data file from a genealogy program can be uploaded or "shared" in the "non-editable by others" space, yet modifiable by the tree owner using Family Search sources. Good Luck. Right now the gedcom thing is just not working for me.

One more observation: the sources I have saved to my source box can be attached to individuals in the CET trees! That would save a lot of searching if I were to take on the task of trying to fix any of the trees I uploaded. Given the time consuming, overwhelming task it would be, I doubt that it will happen.

@mmillington and @kayhaden1 thank you for your feedback. This is an early release of CET and your feedback is very important to the engineering team. They are currently working on the known bugs with the RootsMagic uploads. We are anticipating a CET be created by other options, but at this time the GEDCOM upload is the only option available. Another upcoming feature is "Tree2Tree" which will allow information to be easily copied from any of the FS trees to another FS tree (Global Tree, Family Group Trees, CET). Since this is an early release lab tree, many features have not been put in production at this time. Please keep working with CET and testing to give us additional feedback.

@mynameistk you mention "known bugs with the Roots Magic uploads" in your response. Is it possible to "tree share" with FS from Roots Magic now to the CET area, rather than using a gedcom? If so, I want to do that and see how it works for me. So far I have found the gedcom upload useless for any type of beta testing. What little I have shared is about all I will be able to share using the gedcom uploads. A gedcom is a gedcom is a gedcom, and is inherently unreliable for data transfer, no matter where it comes from. I really don't want to use other people's trees or individuals from the FS Tree to populate "my tree" because I don't want to have to verify all that data again.

@mmillington At the current time, there is no process in place to sync CET with 3d party trees. Our product manager is working with each 3d party vendor to allow that process. When all vendors have the API in place, a smooth upload can take place. But, at this early testing stage, it is not available.
Another piece of the final product will be Tree2Tree which will act like SourceLinker to transfer proven & correct data between trees. Also, the ability to start a tree from scratch without a GEDCOM is being added in the future.
The engineers are working on the known bugs with RootsMagic and all the feedback we get from users is helping to solve the issues. Thank you for your help with the testing and your valuable feedback.

@mynameistk Thanks for your response. I do want to make sure that I can remain as a beta tester on the CET platform as additional versions become available. I will probably spend some time "messing around" with one of the CET trees I uploaded, just to see what works and what doesn't. I will report anything that may be of interest to future development. Thanks for the opportunity!

@mmillington Thank you for your contribution. That is what most of us are doing at this time, testing. Not trying to create a "perfect" tree. I do believe this product, when in full production, will be a game changer and save so much valuable time.

I have a question. Is there a set of numbers reserved only for the CET trees? I noticed that the PID numbers for my two CET trees start with a P. I just added a new person to the World Family Tree and it starts with a P. Thanks.

@mmillington To the best of my knowledge, there are no "set" numbering schemes or conventions for CET nor for Family group trees. I will confirm with the engineering team and let you know.

@mmillington The change log bug has now been resolved. Will you please check your CET and ensure you have no further issues? And, again, thank you for your valuable feedback.
