there is no single one repository for all obituaries.
But . . . have you tried Google? or Findagrave?
if you provide us specific names - someone could help you look.

Do you know what part of California they would have been in? Have you looked at old newspapers for the area? I have a subscription to Newspapers.com if you give me the name, I can do a search.

Theodore Renz. Chula Vista (I think that be would a county), San Diego, CA. That's how it showed up on the California Death Index. However, I am trying to find out more information about his parents to be sure I have the correct people. I am in Wisconsin and I find his parents names in two different cemeteries in my area!! His parents are Anton and Anna Renz. Theodore was born in 1896 in Milwaukee and died in 1979 in the above county. Thank you for your help.....It's been very frustrating.

I tried Find a Grave with no luck. I didn't do a Google search....He's been gone since 1979. However, I will give that a try. I am trying to find an obit or something that would show Theodore Renz' parents. He was born in 1896 in Milwaukee and died in 1979 at Chula Vista, San Diego, CA. That's how the place of death is shown in the California Death Record. I live in Wisconsin and thought I found his parents, but then I also found others at a different cemetery with the same names and the cemeteries are close together. His parents, I believe are Anton and Anna Renz. Thank you so much for your help.

He has a play list called Genealogy and Newspapers - The Ancestor Hunt. I like that his 51 videos are short and to the point.

The FREE California Death INdex - is available within FamilySearch
but thats an index - not the same as a full Death Cerificate

You can find several good videos on Youtube by searching for the term "Research California Digital Newspaper collections." Carol Hill had offered to help with a Newspaper.com search. California newspapers are some of the best in US research.
The trick is to determine which newspaper your family would had put the obituary in. Then locate where and if that newspaper is digitized. If it is in the free California Digital Newspaper collection or a subscription site like Newspaper.com or GenealogyBank.com. If it the local paper has not been digitized Use Chronicling America to determine which archive has the newspaper. There are YouTube Videos explaining how to use Chronicling America to search for newspapers. Good luck.

I suggest when you call, ask if he had a funeral, if there was a program and who attended and who paid for the cremation and obtained the ashes. A crematorium would have had the body picked up and delivered, there maybe some additional records.

M G Thomsen, I don't see the link to the video. Sometimes it is a bit tricky to add a link. I know that I was having weird internet issues today. I was in a Teams Meeting using video and sound, but when I tried to load a page from the internet, my computer said I had no internet. How was I using Teams and communicating with a team? Teams requires the internet. Some times there are just strange glitches.

I have found it helpful to call a local library, county library and a research library near to where they die. Often they will have database of obituaries. Even better, often they will look it up for your and send you a copy. I was searching El Dorado County, called their Local County library. They said let us talk to our genealogist who is here on Tuesday. How lucky you called on Tuesday. She said, oh I have a folder left with us by one of their descendants. How lucky you are to talk to me, I'm the only one who would know about that folder. In the folder was a copy of the family Bible record and notes about where everyone was buried--they all were buried in another county which was near the family homestead.
