Research on my Indonesian family.
Hello, I am a 3rd generation Surinamese from my grandfather's side (mother's father), and I would like to know if I am able to track down family that I have in Indonesia? I know it isn't easy, but I am willing to try, which is why I am seeking for help here.
My grandfather was born in Suriname, while his parents came to Suriname (from Batavia, now known as Jakarta), to work as indentured laborers.
From archives files that I have found on the internet is that my grandfather his mother name was Bok Amatbahrowi, while her father's name was Setronawi Oesrek. At the time that she arrived in Suriname (around 1939-1940) she was 28 years old and could be recognized by a pigmentation spot under her left nostril.
My grandfather his father name was Amatbahrowi, while his father's name was Amatkambali, Toemin. He also came from Batavia to Suriname and was around 30 years old when he arrived here. He could be recognized by his tatted left arm. (1939-1949)
From archives files I also gathered that they had a daughter (who would be my grandfather's sister), I did not know she existed till I found the archive files. Her name was Rowijah and she was around 3 years old at the time. (1939-1940)
All three came to Suriname on the same ship at the same time. The ship was named Kota Gede.
If there is somehow anyone out there who can provide me with information, it would be much appreciated. I never knew my grandfather his parents, hence I am doing this, who knows that family in Indonesia might have a very old picture of them somewhere and I would love to know what they looked like.
I would love to do research on my grandmother's side (mother's mother), but I can't trace back what generation I am in Suriname 😅
Thank you!
