Does anyone specialize in Korean Geneology work??
My mother-in-law is Korean and isn’t able to trace her line back very far at all. She has her parents and one set of grandparents but after that most of the records are in Chinese or Korean and she can’t make much of them with her limited family search skills, limited knowledge of Korean and absolutely no knowledge of Chinese. I'm sure if she can just get back a few more generations we will be able to connect to research that others have already done. Can anyone help me??

I don't read Korean but I do read Chinese. I don't know where you are located, but if you have the jokpo (family history book) you are welcomed to bring it to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and we can try to see if we can help. However, the Family History Library is currently closed due to covid-19 pandemic and we don't have a date when it will be open yet.

Were you able to make progress? If you have the jokbo/ know which pages are your ancestors or found the correct one on Family Search/ Korean Genealogy database, then start backwards, bottom to top, one row at a time. The Youtube videos that Lina provided gives a great overview of the structure and patterns to look for. I am a novice working through my family's jokbo and found this link: http://koreangenealogy.org/ very helpful with deciphering each Hanja character from Korean, (better if you know to read Korean) it is well organized and provides background as well. Hope this helps!
