Jesse Richardson Pratt's parents
Jesse Richardson Pratt (2:2:QMDF-SBK) is my 2nd Great Grandfather (1804-1888). He is buried near Pocahontas, AR. Finding his parents is proving to be a challenge. The consensus seems to be his parents were Thomas Pratt (1763-1833?) and Jane Marckbanks Young (1777-1860). Surprisingly, I am not finding any documentation to back this up. Have any other descendants of Jesse solved this mystery? If not, any suggestions aside from Wiki Research pages for Kentucky (where he apparently lived per the 1830 Census) particularly Green and Gerard counties?

Have you looked for probate and/or land records that might name Jesse as a child of his father or parents? Before vital records were kept, probate and land are important records that can help fill in the blanks.

So far, I have found one document regarding the sale of land in Tennessee signed by Thomas Pratt and witnessed by Jesse R Pratt. On the surface, this would seem to support the belief that Thomas is Jesse's father. But, this could be an uncle and nephew so I don't see this as conclusive. I will continue to check Tennessee land records.

I agree, without a stated relationship, the land record could be a false clue.
Probate has been my go-to, even for a family with little money. Distribution vouchers often give specific relationship details. One of my favorites not only confirmed an ancestor's parents but gave me the name of her first husband since he signed "in right of my wife, formerly Mary (maiden name)."

No luck on wills / probates yet but will continue the hunt. I will post something here when I make a firm connection.

Some of my best clues have been from probate files without a will. Often, when the person dies intestate, the probate file will include more information than in a file with a nicely laid-out will.

please try the FamilySearch Labs experiment with “AI Full Text Search”. This is my new go to place for searching US land and Probate records. It will search for the name anywhere in the document - not just grantor/grantee/decedent. Give it a shot.

The good news is I am utilizing that AI Full Text Search for the will or probate records. The bad news is no results yet. But, it is an amazing tool which I have had great success with in past searches.
Jesse Richardson Pratt seems to have had parents who didn't want to be seen or documented. The search continues.
