Populating last name for children but there is no last name given on the Swedish Records
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSGC-K3G3-5?view=index&action=view
On this link the family of Carl Andersson with his wife Carolina Sofia Pehrsdotter. Their children are listed as Pehr August, Wihelmina and Carl. In Swedish naming practices the children do not have a last name shown. This page shows the correct data for this family but when open the source details that are attached to the son Pehr August it shows all the children with the last name of Pehrsdotter.

In Sweden the children would take the father's first name to create their last name. In this case it would be Carlsson or Carlsdotter. I do not understand why the source details is populating a last name and why it is the mother's last name. This problem continues on several other pages.
Here it is shown on the source linker page
Also shown here on the record information page

Please help me to understand why these pages show the incorrect information and how it can be corrected. Currently I am unable to correct it.

@G Haux It seems this is not an isolated case. Here is another from the same film:

This will be reported to the engineering team. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
You should be able to edit the children through the edit indexing screen. From the record information page, click on "Edit" in the Header Bar. Then click on the "pencil icon" next to Essential Information. Then click on "Add or Remove Fields" then click on "Surname" and Save. Add the correct surname.
Let us know if this solves the problem for you.

Thank you for reporting this to the engineering team.
If I follow the path you have suggested it takes me to the indexed data page which does not show the children with surnames. Which means I am unable to edit their surname name because it is shown properly with no surname.

The surname issue shows up on the source linker page and the record information page. Neither page I am able to edit since it has something to do with has it is populating.
Also your link to another example from the same film did not work. I have seen this many times and so have others that I have helped.

I do understand that the children were indexed correctly. I just thought putting in the surname the child went by would be a workaround for now.

Oh ok. I see what you were thinking. Thank you for clarifying. I did try that and it did change the child's last name. I would still need to go in and edit that source title and remove Pehrsdotter. Although it gives the child a surname name where the record shows no surname is given at that time.
I don't think I want to do that yet since I would like to see what the engineering team can do. Since the real issue is the population of a surname when no surname is given on the records. In Sweden the children's surname name isn't formally recorded until the move out of their parents home or one of the parents dies and there needs to be a record to show which parent the child belongs to. Further the children who were born in the 1860's are leaving their parents home about the time period where the children don't always use the patronymic name or they take a military surname name upon leaving the house. I have found it is best not to assume what their last name will be but to follow the records to discover that. In this case it is really important that the record information reflects the absence of a surname.

@G Haux I totally understand where you're coming from and thank you for sharing your expertise in Swedish research. The bigger issue I see is not in the sourcing but in the searching. The name comes up as Pehr August "Pehrsson" in search results. I don't think this is a problem with source linker. It's happening before it gets to source linker and will negatively affect the ability to find people in the Household Examination Books.

@SerraNola
There in is part of the bigger issue. I have followed this family enough to know that the children took the the patronymic name of Karlsson/Karlsdotter. Pehrsdotter is their mother's name and should only be connected to information about her. People who do not understand this naming practice will create new person details using the last name of Pehrsdotter. Which leads to a lot of extra work to get families together.
Also believe the problem lies in the land between the two records.

Just adding that I have been noticing the same problem with children "inheriting" mother's surname. I'm not sure WHERE it is originating but it is fairly new problem (definitely within this calendar year).

Using the 1931 Canadian census to add someone's parents yesterday, I encountered the other extreme: all of the name fields were blank, despite the index having full names.
Oh, and the birthplace fields, which were a letter-for-letter absolutely perfect match to the standardized location's label (of "Quebec, Canada"), and were unsurprisingly showing as standardized in Source Linker, nevertheless resulted in red "nonstandardized birthplace" flags when I went to look at the profiles today.
