Good morning all. I hope everyone is staying well and busy during this period of social isolation. Of course I am staying busy watching the free genealogy webinars and doing research.
I will be reaching out to the group occasionally in my new roll as the Education Director for The Family History Guide (www.thefhguide.com). I hope people here will have ideas on moving the line forward on public education as it relates to family history. The main tasks that I will be involved with at first are:
- Establishing a strategy for remote training
- Organizing a new Volunteer Presenters program
- Expansion of the Certified Trainers program
If you haven't tried The Family History Guide yet, it is a free training platform that provides instruction on using the big four websites (FamilySearch, Ancestry, FindMyPast, and MyHeritage) as well as training for specific geographic and research topics.

The Family History Guide is just an incredible resource - please pass my thanks (and many others here locally) for the almost unbelievable dedication you and others have put in to create that amazing resource. I long ago put it on each of our six FHC computers as a link across the top of the browser page that opens when FamilySearch is opened.

Very cool! I have one thought, something that I've seen as we are changing things within FamilySearch. We removed all of our class materials for consultants a while back because we recognized that people's situations were so different that they needed more individualized ways to learn in order to get started. Classes seem to be better for people who are more experienced, as I'm sure you know. As I see co-workers starting to explore the learning space again, the focus is on determining how people want to learn, and how they best learn, as opposed to structuring classes for them. So just some food for thought as you begin exploring this with the fhguide. How do people learn in an effective way, or how do they want to learn? Good luck!
