general question on searching church records
I have a general question that doesn't necessarily have to do with just Polish research, but I hope someone can help me.
I started my genealogical search in 1998 by going to our local family search center and searching through microfilm. I stopped in 1999 after having kids and just picked it up again.
I found a (partial) photocopy of an 1895 church death entry I must have photocopied from the microfilm way back when. Of course I only copied the entry and wrote the date, but do not have the name of the parish on it. However, the town where he lived (Gorzewo) is listed, which most likely means the parish was in Ludomy near Oborniki (Prussia). The issue is that I've gone through several searches under "records", both for Ludomy and also leaving it open to Posen and even just Prussia and the death entry does not come up. I checked the "catalogue" and it says the records for Ludomy during this time frame are online (accessible at a family search center). Why isn't the death coming up in the search? Are some of the entries online and not indexed? If I have to go into the parish records themselves and look through them, that is fine, but I only want to do this if there's a possibility the entry is in there just not indexed.
I've also checked Basia and Geneteka with no luck.
Thank you!
Leslie

Yes, some of the records are available to browse but are not indexed to be searchable by name.
It's also possible that the name is indexed but not spelled in a way that the search engine interprets as a variant of the name you have entered. You can try using wildcards in the name.
Best of luck!

Leslie, there are 7 death records from Gorzewo in Ludomy Parish, out of 117 death records, year 1895. You may search for your person using: familysearch.org - Search - Records, as those records are indexed. If you have the copy of the death record of your ancestor, the death record number from Gorzewo could be: 21, 37, 45, 53, 74, 77, or 105. Hope it helps.
