What I add in "Reason to attach source" does not show up on the Details page.
This is specifically regarding Residence info / census records.
When I add a "Reason to attach source" it shows on the Sources page, but not on the Details page. Whatever I put for Reasons in the source linker used to show up right beneath the residence info.
Perhaps the reason is because these fields now have different names? On the Details page under residences it says "Reason this information is correct."
Can you make the information show up like it used to?

I think the error was in the behavior of the old linker: a "reason to attach source" has no relation whatsoever to a residence conclusion, not even if that conclusion derives from that source. I cannot think of a single thing to write in the one place that would make an iota of sense in the other place.

Agreed @Julia Szent-Györgyi - best practice is that something should only be recorded once. The "Reason to attach source" should appear just once. There is no need for it to appear against every fact derived from the source. Not just "no need" but how would one handle it if a bit of the Residence data came from one source and another bit from another source? You can't use the "Reason to attach source" from both - you have to explain that one bit is from XXX, the other bit is from YYY. Different info entirely.

I would like to hear comments from the community on how you are using this field? Do you enter a reason every time you attach a source? Do you enter a reason only from the person page? What advantages have you found from reason statements?

Of all the various "reason" boxes on FamilySearch, the "reason to attach" one is the one that I do not use.
The reason I'm attaching the source is that I believe it is relevant to the person represented by the profile. I feel absolutely no need to say that, ever; it is totally obvious.
How exactly it's relevant is generally best captured by source tagging, so I seldom use the reason boxes on conclusions, either. (Unlike attachment reasons, though, conclusion reasons can get a tad complicated, so I have used them, for things like "date from SourceA, place from SourceB".)
The reason boxes that I try to be conscientous about always filling out are change reasons: the ones that you can't edit, and are really only visible in the change log, such as the ones for dismissing a hint, and, of course, the one for merging two profiles. (And no, I don't use the canned reasons, except as a convenient way to avoid typing the PIDs in a merge.)

I do try to explain why I think the source is relevant to the profile person. For instance, just to remind myself I added a hinted burial for a profile that already had a death date and inserted this in the "Reason to attach Source":
Burial of child is 2d after the date of their death already on file.
This went on the child's entry because that is the person of interest / person of proof.
I do try to always put this on. In some cases, it's simple like "The only Cyrus Pickstock known to have ever been in the USA". (Believe me, one was enough... 😕)
There are slight variations. This one would be appropriate to attaching a military source - "There are only 4 Eli Pickstocks in the England & Wales 1911 census and only this one would be of military age in WW1".
I have multi-line reason statements but they have generally been copied from my desktop software.

I believe that anything entered into this field isn't communicated to anybody editing using third-party software, so whatever extensive and logical explanation you bother to give as a reason is never seen by somebody that clicks a 'sync' button to overwrite it. So the usefulness of the box is somewhat blunted by that.
