Missing year of Nati/Birth for 1898 in Castel Del Giudice Italy (Isernia)
The year 1898 in Castel Del Giudice Italy (Isernia) is missing. I am guessing the book was missing or destroyed(?) What is my recourse for research in that event? I noticed that there are 1898 birth records for the Isernia province would they have a master record? I can't tell currently as I got to go to a family center to view those.
Other than that, I don't think there are any alternatives short of trying to get in touch with the church to research records? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the info. I am going to try and go to a research center to look at Isernia Province birth records. Any inside scoop on why that book is missing?

You can see them at home using the Antenati site btw: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/search-registry/?localita=castel%20del%20giudice (the holdings are the same as FamilySearch btw, including the missing 1898 birth records). If a book is missing it is usally becuase the original was lost or damaged and unusable. The State Archive of Isernia would have information about their holdings.
The records in Antenati and FamilySearch generally reflect the State Archive copies of birth/marriage/death records. There were two copies of each record and the comune keeps the other copy. So if you are looking for an 1898 birth record, you can contact the comune of Castel Del Giudice directly (info@comune.casteldelgiudice.is.it) as it should be in their comunal archive.
If you have no luck with contacting the comune, you can always hire an in-person researcher to go on your behalf. You also have the option of contacting the Chiesa di San Nicola, the parish church in town, to request a baptismal record, but churches are under no obligation to respond.

Okay perfect thanks!! I'll see if i can make some headway with the town or the church. Just to be clear, the provinces did not keep track of the births in their own master list correct? My only recourse for this information is with town records, correct?

The town (comune) made two copies of each birth, marriage, and death record. They kept one copy and the other was sent first to the district court for a period of time, then on to the state archive of the province. Birth registration has always been done at the comune level. Provinces only have what the comunes give them. The province wouldn't keep a list of names, only a list of which years and types of records they have for each comune.
But you can try emailing the state archive (as-is@cultura.gov.it) to see if they have the 1898 birth you're looking for.
