Matlaske/Matlask in Norfolk, England
Currently FamilySearch places define parish Matlaske (with alternate of Matlask) in Norfolk, England.
Confusingly, it appears that:
- Preferred name for parish is ‘Matlask’ with alternate of ‘Matlaske’ (https://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10195548 )
- Preferred name for village is Matlaske (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matlaske )
I intended to add ‘St Peters Church’ as a place of worship and ‘St Peters Churchyard’ as a cemetery - should I wait until parish is renamed as above ?

Thank you for contacting FamilySearch Community regarding the name for the parish. We can confirm the correct parish name is Matlaske. The Parish Council website confirms this. They helpfully supply a photograph of the village name sign and a short description of the village and church, along with contact details.
We have verified that Matlaske is a village in Norfolk. The Wiki page, google maps, and the village sign all say Matlaske with an ‘e’.
FamilySearch Research Places generally determine the standard name from these sources, with other names (from other sources) added as an alternate name.
It is an on-going process within Research Places to merge villages/towns with the parish of the same/similar name, with all the relevant information for that place included.
Therefore, the single entry within Research Places for Matlaske has the ‘e’ added and Matlask without the ‘e’ is an alternate name.
We have now also added St Peter’s Church, Matlaske, Norfolk, for both historical periods, 1066-1801 and 1801- today, with all the relevant information for the church.
You will now be able to add the church and it will be recognised as a standardised place.
