I have come to a brick wall with Arthur and cant find any information on his parents or why he came to Tasmania, Australia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

@marteenawilson I'm told by some Tasmanian friends that the victims of penal laws went to the mainland (Australia) whereas people looking for a better life went to Tasmania. Re: the parents of Arthur Thompson the best place would be parish records (COI) found at Dublin or Belfast (PRONI). Thats assuming he was Church of Ireland.
Both mean an in person visit as none of the records are currently online.

Methodist and RC records may not be of use due to the dates. Take a look at the PRONI document and see what you think.
The above are copy & paste from that link and you can see why you would want to go to PRONI and see the COI film. Back to 1707. Doesn't often happen like that in Irish genealogy.
