Spelling of Godfather Izac Bouyer from christening record in West Street Huguenot Church
I have a christening record from West Street Huguenot church 25 Feb 1728:
Anne Bouyer (Bonyer), b. 23 Jan 1728, c. 25 Feb 1728, d. mr Izac and Charlotte Bouyer at West Street French Huguenot Church. P. Izac Bouyer and M. Anne Samson.
I believe that the godfather Izac Bouyer was the grandfather of Anne, as I don't think that the father could be the godfather also, right?
If his name is written "Izac Bouyer" in this christening record, was that just phonetically spelled or would it have the same spelling when Izac Bouyer was in France? I know that my gggg grandfather Isaac Boyer was originally from Marennes, France area. I found the abjuration of an Isaac Boyer from St. Denis d'Oleron in 1685. The one who wrote this abjuration record in the St. Denis d'Oleron Catholic parish records spelled his name "Izac Bouyer", just as it is written in the above christening record. I'm wondering if that ties them together? It seems to me a bit tenuous still.

I am certainly no expert. In discussions with other missionaries, the feeling is that it is unlikely that a grandfather would be the godfather. With regard to your second question, matching names is not enough to establish a connection. As you say, it is tenuous at best.
