Translation needed, finding my lost line of ancestors
It was suggested that I join this group for suggestions. I have been looking for years and have not been able to find my ancestors on my Great Grandfather's line. My Great Grandfather is Christopher Christian Joseph Heinspeter, 1852, KG89-G2J
Sources on his page suggest he was born at Meklenburg, Langetwedt, Hadersleben, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Family Search computer generated life history says his birthplace is Mikkelborg, Schottburg, Haderslev, Denmark. I have tried different spellings and date range. The name on his headstone is Hinspeter.
Does anyone have suggestions how I can find my ancestors?

So the correct place names in Danish are:
Mikkelborg. Skodborg Sogn. Frøs Herred. Haderslev Amt. Slesvig. Denmark.
Is he born in 1852 in Skodborg Sogn [not found in the church book] or did he die in 1852....
Where is the headstone?
Found it: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/24641992/christoph-christian_joseph-hinspeter
Christoph Hinspeter.
Died oct. 2. 1885/1889 [it looks to me, but other sites says 2. oct 1889].
Aged 36 years.

There is an enormous lack of primary documents in here: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KG89-G2J
Is he from Mecklenburg or Slesvig?
When does he immigrate?
We have children in 1879, but no census information from 1880 [which could show the year of immigration].

NB: The problem that I haven't seen any original documentation that his name should have been Christopher Christian Joseph Hinspeter - all his gravestone says it Christoph Hinspeter.
Be carefull with informations on the net if they are not verified - as you can spend more time chasing ghosts than actual information.
Below shows the amount of Mecklenburg-Hinspeters in Illinois...
Sadly nothing really shows up for census 1880......
Your family should be in Chicago in 1880 (based on the births of their children), so you have to get the original birth certificates so you can see what Ward or township the parents are living and then find them in the census. That should give an immigration date and place of origin hopefully.
Immigration January 6th 1870 with the ship Shakespeare from Hamburg to New York.

Maria Hinzpeter. 26 years old. Daughter.
Wilhelm Hinzpeter. 6 years old. Son.

Thank you for your work. I appreciate you checking the church records. Cristopher's lineage has eluded us for years. Spellings are always a problem. My grandmother's name is spelled 3 different ways on 3 different documents. I found the 1870 immigration before but could not find any German records of the family. One mystery multiplies into many. The timeline generated by Family Search suggest the immigration route through Newfoundland. Of course, that was computer generated and I have not found any documentation.
Thank you again for your work.

If we assume that the birthplace of Christoph Hinspeter is indeed Mikkelborg in Slesvig (Meklenburg in German) - which would be the parish responsible for the birth record? And are those available online?

Mikkelborg and Langetved are both mentioned on the page (but without any original sources.....)
Mikkelborg is in Skodborg Sogn and Langetved is in Skrave Sogn [both i Frøs Herred, Haderslev Amt].
Neither place have I found a Hinspeter (or the like) born around 1852....
