Registration of a death in Berne, Switzerland in 1866, whilst on a trip
Hello
An ancestor (who ordinarily lived in the UK) died whilst on a trip to Berne in 1866. would there be any surviving document giving any details? His death was not registered with the UK GRO and I’ve googled various sites but nothing comes up.

Did he die in the city of Bern, or the canton of Bern - or in Switzerland on his way to Bern? Do you have an exact date - or just the year? Not recorded in the UK: was he buried in Switzerland? Name? ....?
As this was before the introduction of the "new" Civil Registry System in 1876, more info would be helpful.
One possibility might be to check the Newspaperarchives.
