James William Samuels' father

I'm Alexander Samuels and I'm somewhat interested in where my patriarchal family surname came from, (of course it seems linguistically it seems metathesis (i.e additional -s, though I thought it was originally of genitive usage) of the biblical figure, Samuel).

So far I have got to : James William Samuels (1819–1882) GVRY-29C

I have found that James was likely born in Newbury and he was a grocers, and then he seemed to be a labourer in London, and then finally he may have become a sawyer (which my family continued for around 3-4 generations)

I have a private document that dates James's marriage with Frances Hearn (analphabetic) and his father was named as William Samuels (from 1780 to 1800 – after 1843) GVRB-S95 . I also found a Berkshire Baptism document, on FindMyPast (attached to him and his son, James W.) which could indicate that William Samuels married someone named Mary

I am using free sources (and using a legal workaround on Ancestry (that is viewing the documents on a mobile phone and then you get unblurred info)) to complete the tree.

The Berkshire Marriage Index on FindMyPast offers a marriage between William Samuels and Mary Challis on 18 Jun 1807 in Newbury. No other marriages listed between a William Samuels and Mary look plausible.

Checking the Berkshire Baptism Index, no christenings of a William Samuels in Newbury or elsewhere in the right time frame. Possible Mary Challis in Newbury 1783 to Josn and Amey.

Be worth checking the image of the marriage record to see if it gives a parish of origin for William but I have been unable to find a copy of these records online. Even the Bishops Transcripts have a gap covering 1807.
