I am down to 4 different sets of parents for William. None of which are Cherokee. Then there is the theory that he descends from the Swedish pioneer, Johann Gustafsson who changed his name to john Justus in 1690. I don't know where the connection is and how did he become Cherokee? Thank you for any help! Kim

Thank you so much, Loreen, for your reply! Were either William Justice or Margaret Johnson Native American? I was working with the Daughters of the American Revolution. William Justice was a Patriot. His contribution to the War was supplies. I saw an excerpt from William's will. If Cherokee Indian Chief William Billie Justus was his son, he didn't leave him anything. He had several children, and left each child 2 slaves.
What does LBNY-P2G and LBNY-G9J mean? Many people do list William Justice and Margaret Johnson as Billie's parents, but none of my cousins on Ancestry have any documentation to prove it. I appreciate your help! Kim

These are their ID numbers. Click on Family Tree then Find. When you get to that point click on Find by ID, put in, one at a time, these ID's and their names will come up. More information on their Native ancestry is on those pages. The Cherokee people adopted some "white" folks and when that was done, from that time forward they were considered Cherokee.

Thank you so much Loreen! I never thought that he could have been adopted into the Cherokee tribe. That does explain why his parents and siblings weren't Cherokees!

So very true. Good hunting with your genealogy. It is quite "addictive" though which may be a good thing at this time since most are staying home.
