Hi, I am researching my ancestor.
He came from Ireland and landed in NY in July 1851 as David McInerney aged 6 months with Samuel, Mack, Johanna and Ellen(not sure how they are related) on the Enterprise. The next I know of him he marries Alice Coleman in 1877 Victoria Australia as David Melville. Then he was in NSW Australia when he married his second wife in 1894 and when he died in 1909 he was known as David McInerney Melville. Not sure what happened between 1851 and 1877?
Hope someone can help me.

I think I found your David in Ancestry.com:
(1) (high confidence level) 1860 U.S. Federal Census/David McElherny age 10 born abt 1850 Ireland/Parents= William (age 46) & Margret (age 47)/multiple siblings/living in Massachusetts; and possibly in
(2) (moderate confidence level) 1870 U.S. Federal Census/David Mahoney age 19 born abt 1851 Ireland/in New York working as an apprentice to a plumber.
Maybe these will give you leads to find other census and immigration records for parents & siblings, military records (Civil War) for David, etc., in FamilySearch and Ancestry.com
Good Hunting!

Is your David the same person as David McI Melville LZXZ-1Z8 in FamilySearch? If so, the birth years don't match.
David was likely too young for the Civil War and all I found was the 1860 and 1870 censuses already mentioned. However, there is an Australian marriage records for a David McJ Melville married to Rose Brady in Sydney in 1894.
