Can you help new member JudithClark6 with Gothenberg passenger lists 1850 -see her story
JudithClark6 January 27{ Hi Ruth. Thanks for the welcome message. I am looking for information re my great grandfather, Charles Parker born 16 August 1836 in Gothenburg, Sweden and died in Wellington, New Zealand, 15 December 1917. Apparantly he jumped ship in Wellington, New Zealand and was naturalised 3 July 1863. There is no record of his original name.
Anecdotal family history mentions that he heard Jenny Lind, the Swedish soprano sing in New York. Also that he and a brother left Sweden as seamen, when young, because their father remarried and there was conflict. Jenny Lind performed two concerts in New York on 11 and 13 September 1850 at Castle Garden which was near the docks and tickets were cheap because of a disagreement she had with her promoter, Barnum of World's Greatest Showman fame. There was another concert in May 1852.
My theory is that if I find which ships were docked in New York in September 1850 having sailed from Gothenburg I my might find two brothers and their correct names. There is no record in New Zealand of a brother so presumably only Charles came ashore. Also once I hopefully have the names of ships berthed in New York then I can hopefully check on voyages to Wellington. After that maybe DNA will be helpful.
Any suggestions as to how I might develop my theory will be most gratefully received.
Kind regards
Judy Clark

just go down to 1850 in the mid column and copy paste each 1850 year film number. I tried following directions and once you put the film number in it lead me to another place to fill in name and details. Hopefully we will get a discussion going with more complete information.
