Searching marriage of James McNamee and Bridget Cooney about 1849.
James McNamee is probably born 4 Jan 1818 in Liverpool (circumstantial evidence only) and his wife is Bridget Cooney bapt. 22 Apr 1828 in St Catherine c.c., Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, daughter of Patrick Cooney (the hatter) and Mary McDonnell. Their first known child is Catherine McNamee b. 8 Oct 1850 in Manchester, bapt. 5 Jan 1851 in St Chad parish, Manchester. The other children are born: 2 in Hull, 1 in Hartlepool, 2 in Newcastle, the last one in South Shields.
We have never found the marriage in England between 1837 and 1851. Is it possible that this marriage was not recorded in the English civil registration quarterly index? Is it possible that they never married? The Cooney family were definitely Catholics. Bridget Cooney would appear to have emigrated to England with her parents and two brothers, John (b. 1833 in Ireland) and Christopher Patrick (b. 1844 in Ireland), at the time of the potato famine.
Anyone else working on this same family?
Has anyone come across their marriage?
Thanks so much.
