The leading S. means San or Santa (Holy). Looking at this list it might be San Pier Niceto which is also in Messina.

Ok. I got that from the ships manifest. But in other documents, it says he's from Milazzo. His name is Vincenzo Nastasi. His daughter is Francesca. I'm looking in the catalog again. Please see attached. I "think" (well maybe), I found Francesca Nastasi in the births, but it says her father is Rosario. Francesca was born 10 May 1895. Am I reading this correctly? And does this mean the I can find the birth notice on page 41? Because I don't find it there.
Thank you.

From what I have from other records Francesca Nastasi was born in Milazzo 10 May 1895, and I'm kind of doubting that the above is her.
Her father Vincenzo Nastasi was born 8 Dec 1865 in San Pier Niceto, but the birth records for there start in 1867.
So basically, I'm not finding the birth records for either of them. Ideas? Help?
Thanks SO much.

It says her father is Rosario, but that could have been transcribed incorrectly in the index. Check record, not page, n°41 to be sure. If you can't find his birth certificate, check if there's a leva (military registration) for him.

Thanks
What do you mean with n o 41? You did see it on that page? Or am I reading the index wrong? I read it to say that his record is on page 41, but when I got to the page 41 (is there more than one page 41 in the document?), it was not there.

I've read that all men after 1820? in Italy had to register for the draft at birth. Can you please tell me where I should look for them? My military search is not effective. Thanks.

Hi,
Where would I look for the "leva"? I'm assuming in the catalog for italy for messina, but I don't see anything like that there. Thanks.

The 41 doesn't indicate the page but the record number. All records are numbered on the side, there are usually 2 to 4 records per double page. So you might look on pages 10 to 20 for record number 41.

This is her birth record (page 15 of 235, number 41)

OK, you were limiting your search to this site. The earlier records are available on Antenati. This is the index for Messina in 1865, which shows an Andrea Nastasi around that date:
https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua20030352/w9DeRby
Maybe you can find more records on there. The leva for Messina is here:
eg. Pasquale Nastasi:

You will want to check these resources at some point too:

Thank you all for your guidance.
The above is the wrong Francesca Nastasi. She was born 10 May 1895, and her dad was Vincenzo (later James in the US). But now I know how to find the right record.
I looked at antenati, and couldn't find the right years. Will try again.
Couldn't get to the leva. But will try what you suggested above.
Never heard of Inventari. Will try that, too.
THANKS!
