The uncertainty when dealing with records that far back is high.
According to Family Tree, Martha's (LR48-6XV) parents were John Hale L1DN-SVG and Martha Kirby LBPW-6Y2. John was also married to Martha Kirby MRHD-KV1 with a different date and place of marriage although both marriages say Abt. The two places, Hexton and Watton-at-Stone, are 13.6 ml apart - a long way in those days.
Martha's christening record is Watton to John and Martha. All her siblings came from Watton. Where does Hexton enter into the picture?
What is not clear to me is, lacking an actual marriage record, where has the maiden name Kirby come from? Some of the sources attached to Martha Kirby are clearly wrong.
The birth date of 1590 for Martha looks to be a guess.
Looking at John Hale, a christening in Welwyn in 1584 has been added. The Welwyn John's father was William (record on FindMyPast). At 4.7 ml from Watton, this is plausible but a long way from certain.
My conclusion, from a relatively brief examination, is that a lot of effort has been put in already to research this couple. I certainly would not presume to come in and find answers from a 30 minute look. However, I do think that there is huge uncertainty in the work done to date with a degree of straw clutching involved. There is a tendency for some researchers to assume that the first record found that vaguely fits must be right.
Sorry this is not very helpful but I struggle to see what more I can add. I suspect that, were I to spend many hours on this, I probably would not find anything better.
Regards
Graham
