What is the proper protocol for meeting with relatives when visiting locations of my ancestors?
This is not really a genealogy research question. My cousin and I plan to visit the Haute-Saône, Franche-Comté area of France this fall. I have been to connect with some people from the area (even possibly distant cousins). They are helping plan tours to our ancestors’ locations, and maybe even have a dinner at a home, and meeting the Mayor of town of one of my ancestors.
We do not want to offend anyone, but would like to give them a token of our thanks.
I am looking for any suggestions on what we could give our dinner hosts, the Mayor, and any others we meet.
Some thoughts we have are maybe something from the U.S. But we are trying to determine what would be appropriate. We are stopping in Belgium and Luxembourg first. Would it be appropriate to bring something from there?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joan
