@Graham Buckell @DavidBeck1 @LGPreston Are any of you familiar with this area Ravenstonedale that can help @gallupdarrell1 My mother was a convert to the Church and her maiden name was Brown. I've traced a lot of the Browns back to the 1700s and 1800s in Ravenstonedale, Westmorland, England. I need to tidy up my tree and am looking for helps from someone familiar with the Browns of Ravenstonedale. This is why I joined the group today. With such a common last name, I can't always trace my Brown ancestors. First names are also very common, such as, John, William, Elizabeth, etc. Thank you and kind regards, Darrell Thanks,
Shannon

Have you tried checking out the records indexed on FamilySearch?
Go to https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.anyPlace=ravenstonedale%2A&q.surname=brown%2A&q.surname.exact=on. After that, you can narrow down your results by searching on a particular time period or type of record. For example, try entering Ravenstonedale in the Birth Place field, etc.
Brown is far too common a name to search on within the whole of Westmorland, so look at a map to discover parishes close to Ravenstonedale, so you can check these individually, too.
Please return with any further queries, but remember to check for records on other websites, too - like FreeREG, Find My Past & Ancestry.
BTW - I always search using wildcards. In the case of "Brown" input "Brown*" as this will pick up on where the name has been spelled as "Browne". Ravenstonedale is an uncommon name for a location, otherwise I would enter it as "Ravenstonedale*"(or add the county name, too) as the search engine can miss out on producing results if there are different places (throughout the world) with the same name.
