Robert Seal_1 Robert, It seems to me the baptismal entries give the most information. They are particularly good when it comes to sponsors/friends of the parents and their occupations. Sometimes we get that info in a marriage but usually it is just the parents and how the person was conceived. Death records are usually very bland and don't have sponsors (not all the time). However the most dramatic events are suicides and children out of wedlock. It this the way you see things? KG

Yes, for the most part. But a lot depends on where the record is from. I've seen marriage records with the witnesses recorded. Because suicides and out-of-wedlock children were unusual events, they usually provided more information. It was important for the father to be identified in the case of out-of-wedlock children so he could provide support for the child, so it didn't fall on the town.
Interesting observations, Kent.
