Migration from Missouri to California 1840's to 1860's
I hope this is the correct place, I posted in Missouri's group to try to get an answer as well. My 3rd great-grandfather and grandmother are recorded as being in Clay County Missouri in 1839. We have the birth record for their daughter Mary Jane Haskins(my 2nd great-grandmother) to prove this. After this, though they disappear. We know they went to California and Mary Jane went later. I found the person Mary Jane traveled with to get to California and the area she went to, but I still can't find her parents. Mary Jane married in 1858 in San Joaquin County. I have searched all through California it seems from the 1840 to 1880 Census'. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to find her parents? Are there any records from those departing Missouri to California?

I can't help with the Missouri leaving records. But the California stuff could be highly interesting. I found your record of Mary Jane Haskins LHH3-HV3 on Family Tree. investigating that, I see that you don't have many census records for her. So I started looking for those. I see you have 1850 in Missouri. Then here is 1860 with husband Dillard Stirritt and 1870 with Dillard Stirritt. So it looks like Mary Jane and Dillard divorce? Have you looked up their divorce record? Who knows what might be mentioned in that. Then is this Harry Williams and Mary Jane in 1880? It would make sense with Josephine getting married in 1884 in Umatilla county, Oregon. You might search a bit more on Harry Williams, as it appears he has a couple of kids already from a previous marriage. I haven't found anything good for the 1900 census, but you have the 1910 census for them in Eaton, Idaho. So one thing I'm pondering, her birth location bounces all over according to all of these censuses. Only the 1910 census states she was born in Missouri. You mentioned that you found her birth record? I didn't see that attached anywhere. The only records attached to Jermia Haskins are the 1850 census (which shows the name Hendricks Hillman) and Mary Jane's death record. The only places she shows a birthplace of Missouri is the 1910 census and her death certificate. All of the other census records (if they are the right people) show Illinois or Tennessee. The main reason I bring this up is because there is a Mary Hoskins in 1852 in San Joaquin living with her parents Clayton & Eliza. So, I'm curious about the birth record you mentioned for Mary Jane, as I don't see it attached.

So I haven't looked up the divorce record. That is a great idea to follow up on. I know they lived around San Joaquin. This is great information to follow thank you!
