Speaking of morgages...
What was a chattel mortgage? I thought I read somewhere that it was equivalent to today’s bankruptcy filing... anyone know anything about it?

A chattel mortgage is a mortgage on a movable item of property.

Ty for your response @Ben Bailey so I’m assuming in the 1930’s that might have been farm equipment? ... I wonder if they could’ve mortgaged their farm animals and live stock? Anyone know if I would be able to find chattel mortgage info in probate records? Or would that be somewhere completely different?
