The long word after Bürger has me curious. I see it a lot. Does it mean in this community or in this place? What is the word in German, if I may ask?

Hello @Kent Gardiner,
The long word after "Bürger" in the line about the father is: Schumachermeister = master shoemaker.

Perfection. Thanks Robert. And a happy Wednesday to you. Today we watch grandchildren. Just finished reading stories to them and playing Candyland. All the best, KG

You're welcome, Kent. Who won Candyland? I always liked the card with the gingerbread man. And if I'm remembering correctly the cards that had the two color squares.

Robert Seal_1 Deborah won one game and my grandson the other. And yes two colored squares moves you two colored squares over. The four year old likes playing games and chasing and hide and go seek better than playing with toys. KG
